Planet Mars close

I would guess Floyd fans are a little more cognizant of Astronomy than the average doofus, so I thought y'all might be interested in this:

On August 27, the planet Mars will be closer to the Earth than it has been in the last 59,000 years.

It won't be nearly this close again until 2287.

It's close proximity, plus the fact that Mars will be "full" (earth is directly between the Sun and Mars) it will be a splendid sight. A modest 75-power telescope should make Mars look as big as a full moon does to the naked eye. This should last thru September.

It rises in the East high enough to be easily visible by about 10:00pm and reaches it's zenith by about 1:00am.

I looked at it last night, but it was close to the full moon, so tonight should be better.
