| Re: Did the Band need roger waters Waters did not write ALL of the lyrics and certainly other memebers, particulary DG contributed immensely to the sound. BUT, what Waters brought to the table was the concepts and themes. It is great to say DG wrote a few lyrics of The Wall - but there was NO WALL without Waters. He created the concepts, the ideas for the albums. Take that away and there is lttle left.
Clearly though, the sum was greater than the parts when it comes to DG and RW. Both are on their own were simply no where near what they were together. Similar to Lennon/McCartney. They rarely wrote together, even in the early Beatle days but they had a great gift of adding to one another's songs - Lennon being a bit more edgy and McCartney being more melodic.
RW and DG had a great balancing effect on one another. RW on his own seems to focus too much on the lyrics, DG weaker on the lyrics but great musically speaking. |
