Despite Ummagumma being a "fluke", it was an important transitional period in the history of Floyd. Before, they pretty much sticked to psychedelia, and what singles they tried to sell weren't working. This album allowed them to explore their own creativity to the limit, and right afterwards they came back "together" and whipped out some rather smashing albums.
