Re: Favorite Kubrick Film

2001 is the best sci-fi movie period.

I hate the way everyone sees Clockwork and is automatically their favorite movie. Mainly people who want to be 'different' and answer Clockwork whenever someone asks them what their favorite movie is, and they've only seen it like twice. Clockwork would come third to me, last comment withstanding.

Dr. Strangelove is awesome, the performances, screenplay and direction are perfect. Priceless comedy #2.

Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut are great, but again, people don't *get them*. They like Jacket because of the intense violence and profanity and EWS because of the orgy and the masked ball sequence. Very good movies though, a bit flawed, not as perfect as the others.

The Shining is also different, cinematically it's very very good, but Nicholson is way over the top, and as Mr. King himself said of Kurbick's adaptation of his novel: - Mr. Kubrick seems to want to hurt people with this movie.

Paths of Glory is a tremendously powerful film. The performances, the dialogue, the direction.... My # 4

Lolita is simply not that good.

The Killing is a great little noirish film. The whole film is a cinematic 'exerceise', kinda like Memento.

Well, that's my two cents.

Kubrick is a genius
