Re: Finders Keepers

Happened just this past week:

1. I walked to the ATM to get some cash. Apparently the previous user had forgotten to take back his card - it was still in there and it was still logged in. On a whim, I just checked the balance - $14,550. I could've paid my entire years tuition fees and still have change for book.

I took the card out and walked to the building admin office and handed it to the cop on duty.

2. Three days later, I was walking home seriously drunk and cursing the miserable weather. I spotted a very wet and soggy wallet on the sidewalk. I picked it up and there was not a soul in sight. The next day, based on the student ID card in the wallet, I was able to trace the guy's email addy. I sent him three emails with my contact info. He still hasn't replied - so I'm taking it to the cops tomorrow.

My friends tell me that since he isn't interested in the wallet, I ought to keep it, but I have a belief about such things. I believe what goes around, comes around. Tomorrow the tables could easily be reversed and I'd be in the same pickle - in which case, I would certainly like it if my property were returned to me.
