| This Week's Top 10! What are your top 10 albums for this week?
(No Order)
10: Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
Not as insane or insanely good as its follow-up "Disco Volante" (and lacking the fantabulous production of Volante), but it's still delectably whimsically creative.
9: Bob Dylan - Slow Train Coming
The problems (synthetic instrumentation, religious influences) that plagued most of Dylan's 80s ouevre are present here, but that's not the point. The music isn't typically Dylan, but it's thoroughly enjoyable, and the lyrics are fantastic.
8: Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper
Their record output is so good that I could choose anything to put in there, but Follow The Reaper is the one I've been playing the most.
7: The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
For me, the best Stones record - and certainly the one which evokes the best feelings and atmosphere. Filthy, joyous and exciting.
6: Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Are You Experienced! may contain Jimi's most recognisable material, but this is really his peak - as a guitarist, as a producer, as a singer, as a lyricist and as a musician.
5: The Cars - The Cars
Picture perfect pop. Lots of lovely hooks and melodies. Dated, but all the better for it.
4: Impious - Hellucinate
Ear-shatteringly loud but strangely hypnotic, an worryingly speedy blast of foreign metal. The kind of music that will give you a headache, but a welcome headache.
3: The Beatles - Abbey Road
I'm not the biggest Beatles fan, but this an amazing album. The seamless run of songs throughout side 2 is fantastic, and the kind of thing that Floyd would do 4 years later. This would've been a bloody brilliant way brilliant way to round off a decade of wonder and absolute power, but they had to release Let It Be a year later.
2: Phil Collins - Hello, I Must Be Going!
Yes, flame me all you want - I'm a stickler for 80s pop. This is bitter, deep and dark from beginning to end.
1: Genesis - Invisible Touch
Another 80s pop choice (feel free to lambast me for not choosing one of Genesis' artier, proggier earlier works - I haven't bought any of them yet). Hypnotic, beautiful, infectious and clever - and definitely NOT a Collins solo album. Domino and Land Of Confusion are spectacular.
So, what are yours?
