I have to chime in here
When I bought The Pros and Cons, I was a huge fan of the Wall and the Final Cut. I had purchased ATD and KAOS. I was tremendously dissapointed in Pros and Cons and didn't listen to it 10 times in 4 years. However, I dug it out last year after reading a bit more about the story line. I find it more and more appealing as I get older. The lyrics regarding relationships and life make more and more sense to me.
Contrary to earlier posters, I found the use of dream sequences interesting and involving. The repeated use of a melody is a common theme in Pink Floyd stuff and other thematic music, I think it's great in providing a cyclical feel.
The bluesy guitar stuff sounds great to me. It really reflects the sad introspective state of mind that the protagonist is in throughout the album. I mean, what else would one listen to while sitting alone at a truckstop in the middle of the night?
