| Re: Pow R. Toc H. The title is virtually meaningless; a nonsense phrase made up by Roger because it sounded good phoenetically when shouted into the mike at gigs. "Toc H" was signaller's code for Talbot House army signallers' club, a serviceman's billet, behind the Allied lines in Flanders during the First World War. At "Toc H" rank was ignored and officers and privates alike were on a first name basis, as equals. It later became a charity, the name applied to the "interdenominal Christian fellowship" referred to in previous posts. Looking for an accompanying phrase that was similarly arcane, Waters hit upon the "power" pun, "Pow R", for no other reason than it sounded right and was a syballic match. |
