I've just listened to a Chapter 24 on Kazaa. It has the exact same distortion, although it really wasn't noticable untill the 3 minute mark, thanks to the less-than-perfect sound doohicky hooked up to my computer. Just the same, it was there. It sounded the same. I'll give some other ch. 24's a listen, but at this point, I doubt there will be much difference.

Maybe I should just shut up about this. The only thing I can possibly accomplish is to ruin Piper for everybody. Still, it would also be nice to have some closure on this. If anybody actually will take the time to give Ch. 24 a listen, know this: the distortion only really becomes noticable at the 3 minute mark, toward the very end of the song. Now that I think of it, I might have over-hyped the extent this distortion damages the song. It's annoying and noticeable, but not quite excruciating.
