Consider the redundancy and circular logic of the name scientology. There's a start for the critical thinker.
Remember that it costs money to join, costs money to remain a member, and costs money to advance within the church - sort of like those 'real estate for no money down' pyramid scams. Ask what charitable and public services the church provides. Consider also that the church claims a scientific basis.
Remember that scientology actively recruits celebrities - and is very successful among a certain type; say, high school dropouts such as Tom Cruise.
