| Re: Gilmour the Floyd Bassist??? As I've said before, Roger is a fantastic rhythmic bass player and Dave is a better melodic player. To dismiss Roger's bass playing as subpar is to focus too heavily on one aspect of the bass player's job, and not his primary role: holding the band together. There are a few songs for which Roger never played the bass in live shows, and to which we can safely outrule his contributions in the studio. But Gilmour's claim that he was responsible for the majority of the catalogue's basswork is greatly exaggerated. Up to Dark Side of the Moon, Roger Waters played nearly all of it... and this is well-documented.
"One of These Days" is a notable exception for having both of them playing at once, and that comment about Roger being unable to keep it up for the whole song is utter crap - he did it every night onstage for years. "Hey You" is entirely Dave's fretless work, ditto "Pigs (Three Different Ones)". But Roger plays rhythm guitar on those songs, as well. Never underestimate his rhythmic contributions.
Other Floyd tracks I've seen Dave get bass credit for: The Narrow Way, Fat Old Sun, A Pillow of Winds, Echoes, Sheep, Young Lust
