1942 -- COL James Doolittle leads raid on Tokyo with carrier-launched B-25's.
1943 -- Japanese Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto is intercepted and shot down over Bougainville, Solomon Islands, by P-38's from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal, in a brilliantly-executed raid.
