hahahaha. guess i stepped on some toes. i hope y'all know that it's all good. i respect everyone's musical taste. i'm not one to not listen to a piece of music and dismiss it before even hearing it because i may have some preconceived prejudice

. hell, i certainly don't think of myself as a critic. and if any of you out there think that you have unapproachable taste, please...stop the madness and look at yourself in the mirror. i'm sure a good portion of us grew up during the '80s. hahahahah and no, The Smiths (and a few other exceptions obviously...Echo and the Bunnymen come to mind) do not make up for a decade of crappy music. hahahhaha
and don't get me wrong...everytime i listen to Rush on the radio, i'm amazed that they were just a three-piece band. but damn, dude...i just can't dig what they're singing about or how they put it all together. and i know i'll get a lot of shite for this, but the vocals scrape my ears like sandpaper against roseanne barr's soul. *shrug*
i made the comparison between Rush and Cream because both were sort of all-star superbands. and i don't see why we can't compare a, say, Eric Clapton to and Eddie Van Halen. why not? that seems to me to be pigeonholing our own view of the world, and the musicians themselves. (btw, i'd take EC's sincerity which i hear in his playing over the virtuosity of EVH...although VH was a great band (yes, i mean WAS...the dude from eXtreme? are you friggin' kidding me? hahahahha)and i really enjoy their music.
i think that the Robbie Krieger legacy is such a tragic one. he was up there with all the other great guitarists during the late '60s, in my estimation. his work on "peace frog" is fantastic. "riders on the storm," "not to touch the earth," and so on. this guy was amazing. he's such an underrated guitarist. all because he looked like a malnourished hillbilly...kinda like how the kid from "Gentle Ben" turned out. hahahahha. poor robbie.
and don't player-hate on JM. he may have been a bit goofy, a lot pretentious, must've gotten women that you can't even FANTASIZE about being with, but the dude wrote some cool lyrics (except for "the west is the best," "i'm the lizard king, i can do anything" sorta crap). and why are all of you dogging on his singing? i think he had a beautiful voice. i mean, y'all make him sound like he's Bob Dylan. hardly the case.
madcap, i love Abbey Road too! *high five* hahahhahaha. i don't know why that would evoke a sarcastic response from me. do you feel guilty that you like a Beatles album? strange thing, you wrote. hahahha
i'd like to point out that all of these people were and are...well, PEOPLE, aren't they? they were all just guys who wanted to get together, play some music, get women, experiment with drugs, whatever. when you get into terms like "respect for music" and whatnot, you're making Assumptionville your hometown. c'mon...i loved Pink Floyd as i'm sure y'all do, but c'mon...they were just guys. if anything, their background hardly comes from a Somerset Maugham novel...they weren't hardly working class boys from the rough side of manchester, were they? and roger waters...he was a fantastic lyricist and a very charismatic singer. but his bassplaying (except for a few bright spots) was questionable, and from what i've read, the dude was an asshole. how in the hell do you tell a friend from college, who was there from the beginning, to piss off? sorry, but Roger's wacked. his recent interview with NEMS just proved to me what a pompous human being he is.
it's quite late here, and to quote Kenny from the cinematic classic (otherwise known as Half-Baked), my weed is wearing off. good night to all, and have fun!
