Nay, Percy. I disagree. Morrison was a poet first, his songs first appeared as poetry, that's true. But he did also use Rock n Roll to further his own excesses.

I'd say 99% of past and present rock stars got into music for one of three things, sex, money, or fame. This includes Floyd (are we forgetting the whole Syd story here?).

Money, or love, is the inspiration for many artists, musical or not, and for us to condemn someone for their pursuit of such things is just ludicrous. I mean why do you flip burgers or wash cars or whatever it is you do? To get money, and hopefully a girl. Drugs are just a by-product of the money, if that is your thing. Then again comic books could be your thing. Either way, money is what makes the world go around.
