| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? I have a couple of questions about the song "Stay." Since this is one of Mr. Wright's songs (I consider it one--he is listed first), I decided to put them in his "home thread."
First, I address this question to someone more technically knowledgeable about the keyboards/piano than I am. Is it me, or is there something a little...off...about the key of that song? I was playing this song along with a CD recording of the song, and it sounded as if they were out of phase with each other by a matter of semitones. I did check to see that my piano was in tune--it worked fine with "Summer '68" (another song I'm working on right now). What happened? Is there a way to intentionally detune a piano? Or was that a keyboard of some sort that he adjusted the tuning on? (I ask because my keyboard allows me to subtly alter the tuning by increments of semitones.) Since I understand that he actually tuned the Mr. Waters' bass guitar for him, I would think that Mr. Wright would not have done something like that unintentionally. What do you think his reason would be?
Also...do you think he wrote the lyrics? I notice that Mr. Waters is credited SECOND, which seems unusual to me--unless he did NOT write the lyrics.
Somehow, the "feeling" I get from the lyrics matches with my idea (judging from interviews, other lyrics of his, etc.) of what Mr. Wright is like. The "character" in these lyrics seems to me as if he would be not at all harsh or demanding ("And if you don't mind..."), perhaps a bit shy (he's got to struggle "to find the words..."). I don't know what it is...it just doesn't seem like Mr. Waters' personality at work in those lyrics.
