I think others may perceive him differently, but I think of two of the musical Floyds this way: Mr. Gilmour is the explosive energy, the one who captures a moment/emotion like a snapshot. Mr. Wright is the subtle weaver of chords, the one who can pull a song together into a coherent "moving picture".
Of course, they are not bound to these roles, and each has been known to do something more characteristic of the other. Those two are quite a formidable musical team, in my opinion, and that's a large part of why I liked The Division Bell, even though so many people don't.
As for Mr. Mason, I'm sorry, but I don't have very much information on him. I have heard him described as being more of an "architect", a bit more in line with Mr. Waters' way of doing things, but if anyone can elaborate, I'd much appreciate that, because I can't tell you any more.
