| Re: Meaning of the song Wish You Were Here They're all contradictions in term. The song alludes to the original founder of the band, Syd Barrett, an inspired wee bloke who had a bit of an original take on things, musically. Unfortunately, he took too many drugs and lost it. He was replaced within the band by David Gilmour, guitarist and joint vocalist. The lyrical dichotomies within the song refer to Syd's mindset, in as much as he is near, yet far at the same time.
