| Re: Echoes: Best of Pink Floyd Ok. So I gave this a full listen. It's alright. In it's favour, it's worth pointing out that all the songs were taken from the original mastering tapes, so it sounds pretty bloody good. On the downside, I'd have to point out that the editing of Echoes (the song) is as clumsy as ****, and that there is absolutely zero purpose behind the abreviated version of Marooned. There are specifically 7 songs on the thing that weren't really worth inclusion, and only serve to illustrate how distant they became from what they once were. Take a listen to Sheep followed by the utterly horrible sounding Sorrow and try to disagree. Also, did we really need When The Tigers Broke Free? It's not really anything, just an excuse for Roger to use the word "Daddy" again.
I know there's the big debate concerning whether this should have been the fan's choice concerning the actual playlist against the artists themselves, but when it's publicised as being a democratic decision on all four member's parts, I find that a little hard to believe. Can you HONESTLY imagine Roger going through his vinyl collection and pulling out either "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" or "The Divison Bell"? Thought not. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that he had absolutely no input on choosing anything later than "The Final Cut".
3 stars.
