| Re: I wonder why...and it makes me sad. Seen you folks talkin about this, so felt I would put in a bit since this site is new to me. Hope you dont mind.
First let me say, My love for Pink Floyd extends to all the folks that brought it into existance. RIP Syd, and all the fans that passed since the begining. Maybe because I also enjoy playing guitar, makes me have a deep spot in my soul for the lyrics Gilmour puts into space from the strings.
It seems Waters was a natural piece of Floyd from the beginnig untill the cut. Witch BTW I will admit never hit me like any of Floyds other stuff. But of course he is still there in the many things written, and the incredible bass infused for so many. It's sort of like: Waters could take himself out of Pink Floyd but Pink Floyd wills not release Waters.
I mean to say, he has been like a stream flowing away from a mountain. I might say a bit of an angree stream. When a mountain stream has flowed away to the river it is only dry untill the mountain releases more melted snow. So Waters is on ice so to say.
There really is no comparison of the work each have done without Floyd. Though I feel some of Gilmours early solo stuff was extremely good. If Wright had of been with him it might have been as good as Floyd. Deffinately an interesting thought for me. That was late seventies. I dont feel the same about Waters stuff . I think he would need Gilmour and Wright to get closer. In fact I was not even Amused by his first release after Floyd did Momemtary Lapse. Amused was all ready done when Pink Floyd did The Wall, but much better than ATD.(JMO)
The last thing I will question is: Is Pink Floyd as good now as when WaTers was with them? All I can say about that is; what I dont know about this hasn't hurt me. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything released all the way back to the Delicate Sound tour.(was in The King Dome in Seattle WA for that). And I have felt it all is Pink Floyd since then without a doubt. If there is something missing I don't hear it!
It is probably time Waters returned to Floyd. I think they have more to say together. Cant leave this without mentioning Mason, as the other day I heard someone say he was a mediocre drummer. Usually I try not to address someone whom I feel has a very ignorant view of something, but this was begging for an argument. Turned out; this person was a professor in percussion. He had taught drums at a music institute for some years. I was at a used car lot. He was the salesman. Sometimes we dont know how good something is untill we try to replace. Anyway, he did not end up selling me the car.
