| Re: The Trial No, Roger created the idea. He did make the album a couple years before the film, so the idea was already made. And it was Roger that asked Alan Parker to join, I believe. |

| Re: The Trial in that behind the wall documentary rogers says that he thought it should be made into a movie so it could get spread across more formats or somethinglike that. that pretty much says that it was his idea. speaking of that documentary has anyone seen it? they have great footage of the concert. why haven't they released it? ![]()

| Re: The Trial Thank you so much everyone for helping me understand the most confusing part of the film. I knew it symbolized something, just like everything else in this movie, but I couldn't figure out what. Thanks.

| Re: The Trial I have a question, it may just be how I am seeing it, but why do the majority of people that get beaten up in The Wall movie black? I am not trying to be funny or anything, I am just curious?

| Re: The Trial wise_intel, As far as I can remember there's only one person beaten up in The Wall and that person is indeed black. As to "why" he's beaten up, you'll note that this happens during the song "Run Like Hell", after the cryto-fascist "surrogate band" rally, where the black guy is caught with a white girl in the backseat "trying to pick her locks" so the fascists are sending him "back to mother in a cardboard box". Simple really.

| Re: The Trial Well, if you count the riot scene then more white people actually get "beat up". But, as far as the Run Like Hell piece, BoaB said it best. The man speaks the truth. |

| Re: The Trial Thanks, Kev. I remember there was assorted scenes of violence after the "rally" but could only remember the "Run Like Hell" bit specifically. When I was typing my previous post, I had a sudden thought that perhaps Roger's dad's body was returned, sent back "to Mother in a cardboard box". It just had the right sort of ring to it even though it was juxtaposed to "Run Like Hell". Any thoughts?

| Re: The Trial Quote:
If you wanna get really deep into it when you listen to the song stop? before it hes saying how hes only here to find out if hes guilty. basically hes ready to commit suicide but he has to know if its all his fault. the trial is all in his mind with the worms pretty much being judge jury and executioner. Its also sort of interesting ot think that its a show trial and that he was going to be guilty no matter what because of the whole stage set up and the prosector getting ready in his change room and the whole dance and spot lights and everything |

| Re: The Trial Thats bloody brilliant! But why would Roger put it in? I mean, I know he often reffers to WW2 because of his father and other reasons im too lazy to name, but why would he be so specific as to focus on that one night? |

| Re: The Trial i guess just a reference to or example of the violence that can be brought on through mass hysteria, or a certain degree of hate crime that was excused by the Nazis. |

| Re: The Trial In The Flesh is a song at Pink's rock show that he, in his drug-crazed state of mind, turns into a fascist rally. Roger felt that the real Pink Floyd's concerts, especially on the In The Flesh tour of 1977, had become something akin to facist rallies, with the group whipping masses into a blind frenzy with their music, and this elated feeling of power was what made Rog draw the parallel between a rock show and a fascist rally. Pink "weeds out the weaklings" and turns his audience into The Hammers, his troops which are also nicknamed The Worms after the insanity which is consuming his mind (as referenced in Hey You). After In The Flesh is over, you can hear the shouts of "Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd" turning into "Hammer, Hammer!" The concert is now a full-fledged rally. Run Like Hell is just another one of Pink's songs in his show, but now that he is singing to a fascist horde, it takes on a different meaning completely. The lyrics, perhaps originally written as an innocent account of the aforementioned Crystal Night, become orders to the troops! The Hammers/Worms go on a rampage, and the real Worms eat further and further into Pink's psyche, he becomes more and more psychotical and his screams into the microphone become yammerings and ravings. And then... STOP! The drugs from Comfortably Numb wear off. Pink's malaise returns. He realizes what he has done, and sits alone in a washroom stall, which he imagines is a jail cell. He needs to know if it was his fault all along, so he puts himself on trial in his own mind. And then what? All alone, or in twos The ones who really love you Walk up and down outside the wall Some hand in hand And some gathered together in bands The bleeding hearts and artists make their stand And when they've given you their all Some stagger and fall After all, it's not easy Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall. Isn't this where...

| Re: The Trial the cell was his mental cell preparing for the trail. as of now he is ready to kill himself the only reason he doesnt is because he has to know if he was guilty. now if you look closely its a show trial so of course he will be guilty. since he has been judged guilty he tears down teh wall allowing him to now have a real life, but making him weakened to the harshness of the real world |
