| Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics Sure, it's a concept album with a cool concept, and some memorable lyrics... but does anybody else feel that it's a little bit too overdrowned in it's subject matter, and a little less great than the rest of Pink Floyd's lyrics on other albums? I love the album dearly, but lyrically it's pretty linear and dry.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics That's a shame, because the music on it sucks.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics What is good on it lyrically is genius. What is good on it musically is genius. Unfortunately there isn't much of either.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics I checked out some sites giving review about the wall and i think most of them give "big applaus". I share the same view with some people who already posted, but i think it's still a nice one, though it's not genius

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics I think the subject has already been covered in the "Wall Overrated?" (or whatever it is called) thread. Anyway, trying to reply seriously and briefly - and staying on topic i.e. lyrics only - I just think that all of the previous 3 albums have overall better lyrics. And a more universal concept I may add.

Yeah, that's basically how I feel too. I respect that he was trying to make an interesting concept album, and it works in many regards... but I would have rather seen lyrics based on real situations (tho, I guess The Wall largely is based about Roger, and not just "Pink") and more universal things.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics Every song tries to capture an emotion or place in someone's life. The Wall tried to capture that emotion or place in Roger's life over the course of two LPs. In my opinion it was the most ambitious (and successful) concept album written. And I think they succeeded. Lyrically...yeah it's Waters' best stuff.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics I'm sorry but I seriously like the lyrics on final cut better than the lyrics to the wall...I'm going to run and hide to take cover now...

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics I love The Wall, but it might be way too personal. It's taken a while to fully understand it (the movie was some help, though), but even though I'm not disregarding any aspect of it, I can't help but feel, sometimes, that it's just a truckload of whine, whine, whine. I think I even talked to my radio once: I told it to 'Quit whining!!! We got the point, already!!' Or, when I'm wathing the movie, I like to yell 'daddy!!daddy!!' in a mock childish voice, at chosen points of the plot.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics The Wall is something you can really relate to when you're 16-18 years old (as it was for me) and I can definitely see why it appeals to youngest fans here but now that I'm 32 I feel I am closer to Dark Side or WYWH feelings.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics Yea its probably the same with the final cut. Your possible pasts always makes me think about my ex girlfriends and what not...And as far as the wall i always listen to comfortably numb before i leave for the first day back to school, it gets me nice and depressed for the day ahead.

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics I don't relate much to The Wall and I never did. I think it's just because I'm not fascistic rock star (

| Re: Does anyone else feel that The Wall is the least compelling in terms of lyrics I relate to certain songs. I particularly like "The Thin Ice" and its message. "Nobody Home" suits me. However, yes, the lyrics to the Wall are weak compared to, say, DSOTM, OBC, or its successor TFC. It was somewhat autobiographical, but it seems like Rog wasn't feeling it as much he should've been. Just my opinion. How many songs does that "Ooh babe" line come in in, anyway? Anyone have an exact count? It gets a bit irritating. I like what NNJ said one time about it sounding like bad teenage poetry. I saw some bad teenage poetry (not that I can do better) during lunch period today. There were a few similarities, indeed. Roger was (or is) a great lyricist, but IMO, not one of his finest outings. |
