Re: The Trial

I saw the movie last night . . . And I'm wondering; is the trial real? Or is it actually just Pink having to make a choice of where to go next in life, and the image of a trial with all the people in his life used to symbolize it?

Re: The Trial

Thought so. At first I thought it was option 1, but when I saw the movei it became clear that the trial is all in his head, symbolizing his having to make a decision of where to go in life . . . The result, tearing down the wall. He's spent too much time sulking over all his terrible life experiences, and is tired of sitting around in his hotel room wishing his life could have been different. Without the wall there could be a spark of hope left for life, but he'd also have to learn to make better decisions, and take his life into his own hands.

Am I right? Hope I interpreted it right. Did I?

Re: The Trial

I'm also wondering about the concert/rioting scenes . . . Is the fact that it looked like a Nazi rally real? Or is that a thought of his created by the drugs they put him on? And why is having the concert be a Nazi rally signifigant? And after Pink finally snaps out of the drugged phase and finds himself in a cell, what did he really do? Starting with "In The Flesh" is when the album/movie gets confusing.

Re: The Trial

yeah it gets damn confusing. i think the nazi thing may be real but i don't know why he is in the cell either. for some reason i remember him being in a bathroom but i think i'm wrong. anyways i also thought it was stupid how they changed it from a concert to a rally because it was originally supposed to be a concert right? and there isn't a very good transition from him becoming a musician to nazi leader.

Re: The Trial

the people at the rally were going to the pink concert and he showed up doing the nazi thing. people started crying "you suck!" and then he finally realized what he had done. he was put in jail for doing a nazi thing, "showing feelings."

thats it (i think)

Re: The Trial

Alright, I thought it was self explanitory.
He is not a nazi. What that section of the movie and album is saying is that when you are a rockstar, you have power over the crowd much like a dictator. Many rockstars have said that if they were to tell a crowd to kill someone in the audience, the crowd would obey. The would do anything for you, they would follow you. In a sence, he has control over them. Not too much in the movie should be taken literaly. It's a s*** load of symbolism.

Re: The Trial

maybe the biggest weakness of the film is that it elaborates further on the ideas in the music, but doesn't really explain them. What I mean by that is, we're shown a lot more of Pink's life in the movie, but not really told about the order. I had to read a lot of articles and a few books before I came across Roger's explanations.

He explains "In the Flesh?" as an introduction. Showing us Pink in the middle of a concert, being a rockstar. The rest of the movie until the second "In the Flesh" serves as a series of flashbacks and storytelling.

Re: The Trial

Keep in mind that Roger felt a lot of these emotions himself. Now I'm not saying he wanted to control people or that he's is racist or anything like that, but The Wall was essentially Roger pulling a Brian Wilson. It was his sentiments of retracting from rock stardom. But, as usual, Roger has a wonderful play on words, and creates a character to embody his ideas. On top of that, I don't think Roger came up with the idea for The Wall (movie). Didn't the director come to him with the idea, and that's when he became involved? So that might explain some things like the concert and whatnot.
Keep on rocking and Shine on You Crazy Diamonds.
