Rick Wright dead at 65

Unfortunately, Rick has died after a battle with cancer, on September 15.

The Brain Damage new

Now, Rick is the Great Gig in the sky!

Quote:
And I am not frightened of dying. Any time will do; I don't mind.
Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it—you've gotta go sometime.
...
I never said I was frightened of dying.
Thank you for all fabulous music!
R.I.P. Rick!

What's happened to the forum, it was down?

Re: Rick Wright dead at 65

Unfortunately this site was off-line when the unhappy event occurred, and the media was - a week ago - rife with obituaries and tributes to our fallen Floyd.

On Friday, The Times - I think it was Friday - ran what they alledged was Rick's last ever interview which occurred in September 2007. This interview was very brief and touched on very little of the band's history, on Rick's turbulent final years in Roger's Pink Floyd, David's ressurrection of Rick's Floyd-status and finally, to their now never-to-be-repeated reunion for Live 8.

And it started off with the most irritating and clichéd question possible: Which one's Pink? Gah!!!

Now, even pigs flying cannot get Pink Floyd back together, so I guess we are now on our own, folks.

Rest in well-deserved Peace, Rick. Condolences to your loved ones for their loss.

Forlorn Floydian,
Bride

RIP Rick and thanks for the memories
To bad about Rick. I wasn't aware he was in that bad of shape. I hope his family is ok. Maybe they wanted to protect his privacey in the final days(Much like George Harrison) who also died of cancer.
and then there was 3 with Syd going first and now Rick.

RIP Rick.

I sure hope the album he was working on will be released. He probably knew it would be his last one.

Re: Rick Wright dead at 65

It's been non-stop "Great Gig", Us & Them", "Wearing the Inside Out", "Summer '68", "Echoes", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "Interstellar Overdrive", etc... for me since I heard the news last week.

Didn't expect he'd be the 2nd to go, but he'll be remembered for sure.

My solace is that I got to see him with Floyd three times and BDG once.

, Rick

I've been playing a lot of the old Rick Wright classics too. I think that Remember A Day and Mudmen are my favorites.

Re: Rick Wright dead at 65

Rick was often my favorite (aside from Syd, but he was hardly around enough to be in the running). Unlike Rog and Dave, he was very unassuming, but the keys were responsible for a huge part of what I think of as the Pink Floyd sound & aesthetic.

Peace, Rick.

Re: Rick Wright dead at 65

I've been trying to post for a week but the site was down!

I know its completely irrelevant but does anyone know what type of cancer he died from? (my father nearly died of cancer before so it chokes me up remembering it) Apparently he wanted to keep the whole thing private so nobody knew for a long time. Wow, the second one to go, I hope David still turns up for Jools Holland this evening to play live, they did a little tribute last episode.

Re: Rick Wright dead at 65

Just two Sundays ago I watched DG's live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD for the first time and some of my favorite parts of the concert were interplays between David and Rick (the ending of Echoes, for example). It is truly beatiful to watch two people who have worked together during so many years having this communication on stage without the pressures of an official Pink Floyd reunion and the pigs flying...

The next day I heard the news. It is a great loss for any music lover, his gentle touch at the keyboards and his beatiful chord progressions are a basic part of the Pink Floyd sound. I'm happy that he enjoyed so much his last tour and that a lot of people got the opportunity to show him their appreciation after so many years.

Unhappy Re: Rick Wright dead at 65

As some have mentioned, unfortunately APFFN was experiencing server problems at this sad time. I've been working with our host provider throughout that week to get things sorted out and I'm glad that we are finally back online.

Rick will certainly be missed and will forever have his place in the history of music. Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

RIP and shine on, Rick.
