| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? I saw someone here named Wrightkeys, but are there any others? Come on, some of that 3% must look at this board on occasion! (I wasn't expecting a number THAT low when that poll was on www.pinkfloydfan.net!) If so, let's make this Mr. Wright's home thread...I would very much like a forum to discuss his work!

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Hell Yeah! Wright is so awesome! [as are all the other members] But I voted for Wright on the poll. Does anyone here own "Broken China?" I think it is so great! I recommend it to all floyd fans. Chazz

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Oh, I LOVE Broken China...that album absolutely breaks my heart--and that is a high compliment, because I think the purpose of art is to elicit an emotional reaction out of you.

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Well, he co wrote Time, but yes Rick Wright is awesome. I love his organ solos From Piper at the gates of dawn and all of the early stuff. |

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? "Wearing The Inside Out" on TDB, is my favorite track on there - and i guess he came up with it - great stuff. The Great Gig In The Sky has to be one of the greatest Floyd songs - Wright hit home on that one. Tho he may not be the MOST skilled (Richard Wakeman beats him, but this guy is a god at keyboards) he's up there - and tho he wasn't so creative in "The Wall" and "TFC" (tho, who was besides Roger!?), he's still kick - arse at the keys.

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? i definitely voted for wright on the poll. i play keyboards and he is my biggest influence (in other words i'm not that good). he wasn't a virtuoso but he made some beautiful and great sounding music. and on another note, keith emerson can kick rick wakeman's ass.

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Thorin13-- You know, I think it really doesn't matter whether or not Mr. Wright is the best keyboard player out there, when it comes to the technical aspect. In other words, I think I agree with what you're saying. What matters the most to me is the amount of the Pink Floyd sound that is his--it's a huge contribution! Maybe it's subtle at times, but PF just isn't the same when he's not there. And I second that motion Charade made about Mr. Wright's solo work. By the way, does anyone know exactly what inspired the track "Wearing the Inside Out"? All I know is that it forces me to recall a very painful time in my own past--whatever it was, it couldn't have been pleasant.

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? NNJ: Ouch! Wright is definitely a great part of the Floyd sound. He also seems more (than dave) tuned into the concept album idea. Dave and Rick seemed to be the primary musicians in Floyd and thats what you hear in TDB... a good musical piece which greatly benefited from Rick's input.

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Richard Wright is a composer of outstanding ability. I can think of very few other writers that can come up with chord progressions that can conjure such an incredible sense of mood and colour. Let's not forget that "Us And Them" is his music and is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written! Anyways, his harmonies with Dave are tops. Rick's definately my favorite (after Syd of course, but that's a different story and a different band). -Chris |

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Us & Them, + pretty much any of the songs that he contributed to on DSOTM, are phenomenal. It's a bit of a shame that he let himself be quite so bowed by Roger later on.

| Re: Any fans of Mr. Wright out there...? Mr. Wright's reaction to the ultimatum was probably not a bad thing, even though we'll never know what would've happened if he'd tried to stay. After all, when a speeding train is coming toward you, the best thing is to get off the tracks. Had it been me, I'm not sure if I'd have been able to stick it out as long as he did! I would've probably left either during or after Animals, from how I read that things were going at the time. But this does not mean a weak man. Just look at Broken China. You have to be strong to get through something like that and then be able to speak to the world about it (through art, but it's the same principle). The album's dedication says it all: "To all those brave enough to face their past." Can you do it? Can I? We all hope we won't have to, but when we have to face that moment, will we be ready? And no matter what we think...it seems to me that if we haven't already come to that moment, we all will someday. And it will be a rigourous test when it comes. I suggest everyone here think about that the next time they consider criticising Mr. Wright's personality. Sorry for going astray there, but I just wanted to get that written down before I lost my train of thought.
