Yeah i realised that, just i don't really put PF into Rock category. Maybe Animals but even that is more dynamic than rock music. Bands like Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, ACDC they are what i conisder good solid rock acts, but PF are more then that. Cheers thorin!

Covers?.... let me see. Anathema did great covers, they did 2 small PF covers in studio(good bye cruel world and One of the few) and another one live (comfortably numb). But they also did a "half PF" cover. Its a song called Hope, david wrote that song (only the music) in the "about face" era, but he didn't use it, but Roy Harper (the one who sings have a cigar in WYWH and the writer of the lyrics of Hope) used it and now anathema covered it in their album "eternity" check it, it's a very good cover.
Another band who did good covers is The Gathering (from Holland) they did "in power we entrust our love advocated" of Dead Can Dance, and "when the sun hits" of Slowdive. Those are the best covers i ever heard.

Roy Harper's voice is the only one I accept for Have A Cigar, even Floyd performing it live without him isn't as good.

Best cover bands?

Hard one, but I'd say I agree with the guys who said Phish and Primus. By the way, for those of you who mentioned Live, you really should be ashamed of yourselves. These guys are the Cheap Trick of the 90s. Sorry, but if you had to put up with the amount of "Live played here before they were famous" bullshit that I do, you'd hate them too. Especially since the two most popular groups (Live and Fuel)to come out of this area since Poison (who also suck) are just glorified cover bands.

I would agree that Phish was problably the best cover band. However Richie Haven does some very very good covers, such as "Here comes the sun" and a couple others, he does it all acoustic which, is absolutely magnificiant, if you havent heard any of this stuff then i suggest you take a peak.

Guns N Roses
their choice of songs to cover can be questionable at times, but they do the songs justice.

Phish is not a cover band.....yet, they play some incredible covers.

I saw them live in concert a year ago. They did Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group for their encore. It was incredible! It was not a spoof. They nailed it. I also have a copy of their Halloween show where they played the entire Quadrophenia album. That takes balls.

When it comes down to it, Phish is comprised of VERY talented musicians. They can cover any song and make it damn good.

Period.

Re: bands that do good covers

Dream Theater does some great covers.

Someone's gonna kill me for this, but Guns N'Roses did really great cover versions of Knockin' On Heaven's Door and Live And Let Die. But their cover album a few years later was shite. After Izzy Stradlin left, the band wasn't capable of making good music. W. Axl Rose is a jerk.

Re: bands that do good covers

I saw The Killers slip two half-verses of "Time" into a medley they did. Probably the only worthwhile thing they played all night.
