Re: Bands influenced by Floyd?

Yep it's true that Rick's parts in the WYWH album (oh, if only FloydWright could read this! :smile and esp. SOYCD have always been regarded as a huge influence no lots of New Age stuff...

Anyway, another band that may have been influenced by Floyd are the Cure, most notably on their 1989 album Disintegration... listen to the mesmerizing synth/keyboards textures and to the echoing guitars; also, the Cure leader Robert Smith said, about the recording of their 3d album,Faith (1981):"I've always tried to make records that are of one piece, that explain a certain kind of atmosphere to the fullest. If you're gonna fully explore something, you need more than one song to do it. That's why I always liked Nick Drake's albums or Pink Floyd records like "Ummagumma"... I like a lot of music that's built around repetitions-Benedictine chants particularly, and Indian mantras. (etc.)"

Re: Bands influenced by Floyd?

Marcy Playground's frontman (don't know his name, don't wanna know it, God they suck) said in an issue of Rolling Stone that Opel was one of his top 5 albums. Struck me as odd, since no one, at least in popular culture, seems to mention Floyd or especially Syd.
