Does anyone else notice a strikingly similar career path taken by these two bands? I'll get back to this with my thoughts, but i'd like to hear from Supertramp fans (cause i'm not a fan but know a bit about them). Cheers mates.

Why do you feel the need to start a topic about my mom?

Never really got into Supertramp. Don't like the vox (the same reason I never really liked Yes, Rick Wakeman is one of my favourite keyboard players, but Anderson's vocals are too much for me). Musically, they're a decent progressive act, I suppose. Haven't really heard much I'm afraid.

I've tried many times to like Supertramp. But this convinced me that they're just plain crap.

I'll listen to Take the Long Way Home or Give a Little Bit when they come on the radio, but I can't imagine owning a Supertramp album and listening all the way through. Like was said, they're decent, but the vox get annoying.

Gerald,

Just FYI, and IMO, if you listened only to those two songs from Supertramp, I'd understand your reluctance to delve further.

I can also understand your dislike of the falsetto singer, but the other guy (only PF names are important to me) and CRIME OF THE CENTURY is sheer brilliance and bears much listening, if not owning.

Shine on!

I bought Crime of the Century a few days ago, and it's great. Especially the final two tracks, they're incredible. They're not close to as good as Pink Floyd in their prime, but their pretty damn good.

Oh no guys, i think you got my post confused. I meant the career similarties, not the music or anything (cause i don't know their music very well or am i a fan). It was just my dad was telling me about their career and i thought it was quite similar to Floyd..
Check this out...

1. Both British (easy one first)
2. Both had Rogers, which were the main lyrical..how do we say...lyric writers??
3. Both had there best know albums around the same time (DSOTM 1973, Crime of the Century 1974), both were also to prove to be their greatest legacy.
4. Both also had a big hit at near the end topping the US Charts (The Wall 1979, Breakfast in America 1979)
5. Both had songs on the (bad side) of the british public school system (ABITW, and School). Both songs also being laded with Children sound effects
6. Both their last albums had ending titles (The Final Cut, Famous Last Words)
7. Both the Rogers went onto solo careers (our Roger being more sucessful)
8. Both bands rejoined without the Rogers
9. Both did various "live" gigs during the 90's.

So ther you have it.

Nice.

I love Supertramp - they're up there for me.
I love the vocals! And i love the Yes vocals aswell! (Along with Wakeman).

Yes - Crime of the Centure is their best album, very nice.

Along with Crisis? What Crisis?, and Breakfast in America. Their latest one: "Some things Never Change" was decent, along with "Even In the Quietest Moments" - not too good...

...but i love the band and i hope to see them live this summer (hopefully).

Pedge,

2. The guy with the words is called a lyricist.

And the career similarities are indeed remarkable.

CIA, my absolute FAVE Supertramp song! What's the title? Rudy?

I was saying to a mate the other day how it is a perfect rock/pop song from start to finish.

- he needs TIME! -

Thanx BoaB,

Had trouble with it because although both Roger's were lyricists, Roger H was officially the main writer with Rick Davis helping while our Roger, kinda wanted total control.

Guess what I like supertramp, there not as good as Floyd or Genesis but thay have recorded three classic songs - firstly and most obviously The logical song, if it weren't for the shoddy last minute this would be one of the greatest songs of all time.

Also these two are great....'Hide in your shell' and 'Crime of the century' vocals on the latter resembling Freddie Mercury's.

'School' may have been Floyd influenced.
