A Saucerful of Secrets

I really liked ASFOS but it seemed shorter in length than TPATGOD. I recently heard a song called "Rain in the Country" that I think was from around this same period. I thought it was good. Does anyone think that a studio version of "Rain in the Country" exists. I was excited to find a song from that period that didn't make the album. I'm wondering why they woudn't have included it on the album?

Re: A Saucerful of Secrets

Listen, thanks I didn't know that. I knew Pink Floyd had songs on that movie soundtrack but I'd never heard them. I always wanted to hear them but years ago there was no way to track that album down. When I first heard A Saucerful of Secrets it seemed like a really short album to me. I don't know what it clocks in as but it must be one of their shortest studio albums. I wondered if they just didn't have any more material that they could have included on it?

I should have posted this in the Early Pink Floyd forum. I know Syd Barrett has a song on Saucer. I used to just have the cassette of this album and there were no instrumental credits on it. I thought the one Syd Barrett song was a left over from the first album and that he didn't have much to do with Saucer. I'm guessing he had more to do with it than I first thought, but that's the reason I posted it here.

Re: A Saucerful of Secrets

Actually, you are right. Syd's only contribution to ASoS was the last track, "Jugband Blues." He had pretty much lost it by that point (as far as the band was concerned). Although you can tell that some songs do not escape Syd's influence on the rest of the band, i.e. the jangly psychedelic rock of "Corporal Clegg" or the long winded space jam, "A Saucerful of Secrets". However, some new styles and ideas emerge in the midst of all that, but they aren't quite brilliant yet.
