| Re: Saucerful at pompeii this may not be the right topic but i'd just like to describe what aSoS represents to me: it is one of the best love songs ever played. the 'thunder' before Celestial Voices is the chaos of the relationship and all the fights it brings. but Celestial Voices on the other hand is pure magic. two hearts that beat as one.

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii I dig it! But I think I like the Unmaguma version a little better.

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii Does anyone saw the 1970 Live at Kralingen footage? That's the aSoS BEST live perfomance!!! Almost at the end of the "celestial voices" Roger said to the others: "one more" "one more" and they did, Guilmor repeated the voice part and the band keeped on playing with an unusual energy. Awsome!

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii Saucerful Of Secrets is infinitely superior live, on the record it just sounds like chaotic nonsense but live it becomes this fantastic, orgasmic, mysterious, surreal and beautiful piece which evokes such strong emotion in me it's untrue. To me the first half of the song is like the chaos and struggle of life and then the end is like looking back on everything you've done and seen as you leave the Earth on your way to the next life. |

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii Quote:
Roger's antagonistic discussions remind me a great deal of Don't Look Back, the Pennebacker film on Bob Dylan. Bob was quite arrogant with the press and loved to play mind games. There is a similar thread here and perhaps it is just the extreme arrogance of someone who is young, successful and bright. Not excusing either for such bad behavior as it is clear that Dave didn't stoop to berating people.

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii As an aside...why does everyone like UmmaGumma so much? I thought it was bloody terrible!

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii Probably because it was their only official live album for 19 years. People got attached to it. It's not fantastic but it suffices. Roger is argumentative. So what? That doesn't make him wrong.

| Re: Saucerful at pompeii Saucerful is pure genius, insanity, and color dished in such a way that no band could ever recreate it. I have recently grown a new found love for Saucerful Of Secrets, especially the Pompeii version, when rogers begins to hammer on those cymbals and then the gong, I begin to remember why i fell in love with Pf in the first place, abstract creativity. I believe the crazy psycadelia in the first half of the song is perfect, and I quite enjoy listening to it, 'Celestial Voices' is closing the song Pf style, beautifully. |
