Re: Michael Jackson, R.I.P.

thank God the Sarah Palin announcement knocked the 24 hour Michael Jackson hurl fest on CNN,MSNBC and Fox to the back burner...

what was he doing with PROPOFOL, an IV surgical anesthesia drug in his house?

Re: Michael Jackson, R.I.P.

Republican Rep. Peter King (NY) said on Sunday in front of his local American Legion Post:

"Knock out the psycho-babble and stop covering Michael Jackson because the guy was a pervert. He was a child molester. He was a pedophile. To be giving this much coverage day in and day out ,what does this say about us as Americans."

CNN later on gave him a chance to back peddle but he continued:

"There are men and women dying today in Afghanastan. Lets give them the credit they deserve."

'There is nothing good about this guy. He may have been a good singer and dancer, but, bottom line is- would you let your child or grandchild be in the same room as Michael Jackson."

He'll probably say the same thing when Santa Claus dies.

Re: Michael Jackson, R.I.P.

If Joe Jackson was actually the root of all his problems, then all the other Jacksons would be equally troubled which from what I can see isn't particularly true.
More likely, the fact that he was always in the spotlight or something like that, was the cause of his problems. Or maybe, he just had problems that weren't caused by any particular thing. No need to blame Joe Jackson, even though he clearly isn't the best guy around.

With that said, I love Michael Jackson, but I think his best years were behind him. He made a lot of great music that I think will be remembered for at least one-hundred years.

Frankly, I do not really see why you are being picked on while there remains a much older, yet much more immature, poster saying things here. Especially after it was kind of deemed that if people wanted to say nasty/controversial things to do so in another thread.

With that said, I do wonder if Micheal had another Thriller in him and it was wasted while he was preoccupied

I think it's because I have red hair.

The world does not need another Thriller, just as it does not need another Dark Side of the Moon. A lot of old celebrities and entertainers are dying off, making way for a new wave of inspiration and important characters. Wait about 5 or 10 years and we will have at least a handful of new classic records that sound nothing like (though remnants of inspiration will inevitably remain) Thriller.

Not necessarily. Each person will react differently in a disfunctional family and will assume different "roles". Check out La Toya's struggle. The other brothers were older and more mature when Michael became the darling of the pop scene as star of the Jackson 5, and, as peripheral figures, they were more able to deal with it. That's a lot of pressure to put on an 8 year old kid. That was the point where papa Joe took Michael's childhood away...which Michael spent the rest of his life trying to find, and likely a major reason Michael abandoned his family. That was when Michael became the "lost child". Or, as Dr. Alice Miller put it, "the drama of the gifted child."

This is, of course, all wild conjecture on my part.

That's not quite what I meant. I meant more that the man still had much potential, and I would have liked to have seen what he could have done if he had lived long enough to create another album.

We still may see it. I remember hearing years ago that 500 songs were written for the Thriller album, who knows how many of those were recorded. Apparently, there is talks that there is enough unreleased material that we may see a Tupac-esque post-mortem Micheal Jackson for years.

I think it makes sense that it would be a big deal, because he was really popular and loved by a lot of people. Most people who are into Roger Waters were probably at some point also into Michael Jackson (with A LOT of blaring exceptions, of course), but the reverse is probably not true.

With that said, I think that when Bob Dylan or Paul McCartney dies there will also be a lot of hoopla, not as much probably, but then again there probably wouldn't have been as much hoopla about Michael Jackson if he died in twenty or thirty years at an appropriate age.
