| Re: The Revival of Rock ?? The top german band 'The Scorpions' just now finished their tour of India and I caught their headman,Klaus Meine in an interview. When asked about his views on rock and the phenomenal success of his tour and on the emergance of these new boy-bands he sid that Pop could never threaten a solid establishment of rock. He said that even during the late 70's Punk rode to fame by holding huge 'dinosaur' rock groups in contempt. Meine added that rock musicians were able to weather that storm with relative ease. He feels that rock in this age is more important than ever. 'The Scorpions' he said have been around since 1965 and they haven't lost their touch yet. He feels that Pop culture is just an on and off phase while Rock has a never ending foundation and immortality is reserved only for Rock icons. He states the example of Michael Jackson for good measure. I quote (meine)-"I feel that people have gotten sick and tired of this boy band business and are in some mood for plain ol' rock. The saga of rock is a never ending story". What da ya all think ??!

| Re: The Revival of Rock ?? It's funny you should say that, man. I was just thinking about one or two actors that I'm familiar with: Robert De Niro- controlled, intense. And Harold Lloyd- a pair of glasses and a smile. No offence, Big Boy

| Re: The Revival of Rock ?? I hope rock is coming back, esp. progressive rock. On E4 saturday(I think), there was a programme called Top 10 Progressive Rock and PF came no. 1. Most of the prog groups came up against punk but they all survived despite the rebelliousness of punk. If they survived that onslaught(which was pretty pathetic anyway), why should't they survive now faced with boy bands and teen pop? People will get bored of the likes of Backstreet Boys(yuk!!) and Britney(yeughh!!) eventually(hopefully Hear'say and Will Young as well: the world is a better place without them). So..... Yep, rock is pretty solid, it'll take a lot to shift it so you might as well not even try. |
