Living on my own

A week ago I moved out of my parents house in suburban Dallas down to Austin, just a few minutes from the capital. My folks are not supporting me financially in any way. I came here to get my kicks and hit the big time with my music. I am now 20 years old.

This thread could be used for stories from all of you on when you first moved out on your own. Did you face difficulties? Was it the greatest time of your life?

I live in a very cheap apartment with 3 roommates I was randomly assigned to. I am 2 1/2 miles from downtown Austin. There are homeless people begging for money on every corner in my neighborhood. I give them cigarettes, but I think I will give them some harmonicas.

So far I like it but I am afraid I will have to work far more than I'd really like to. That's the way things go I suppose. In a few years, I should be on the television somewhere.

Now I want to know about your experience of moving out for the first time.

Re: Living on my own

I was 18, and heading off for my frosh year. I made some friends and spent a good deal of time in an alcohol induced haze.
I grew up a lot though.
Paying for an apartment and taking care of yourself can be tough, but it's incredibly liberating. I had a lot of good times and I'm glad I did it. It taught me a lot about myself.

And it made me less grossed-out about cleaning the bathroom myself. (very handy now that I'm living with my fiance)

Re: Living on my own

I was 19, moved back to my hometown and got a seriously cheap apartment that was once a store. 3 of my old friends moved in and we split all the bills 4 ways. we all worked and had plenty of extra money for vodka and weed. we did absolutely anything we wanted, no rules, few responsibilities. It was beautiful chaos. eventually the refrigerator stopped working, the lights wouldn't come on, part of the roof was leaking which eventually led to a ceiling tile collapse. I wish I could go back and save some of that money I blew on getting wasted. Now I am drug free and live in a much nicer apartment with my fiance and a dog. how the times change.....

If I could give you one piece of advice, work hard and save your money, 25 comes fast
