Lily Allen attacks Ferrari collecting Pink Floyd

I was considering placing this thread in the Just Babbling section but, because Miss Allen is selling records - will wonders never cease? - I have put it in here instead.

First off, the expensively educated and overly privileged La Allen has made a name for herself, being the daughter of unlikely hard-man and C-list British actor, Keith Allen, by singing forgettable pop pap using a 'street' London accent, and for slagging off - US: criticizing - the likes of Madonna, saying Madders is way past it and should move over for younger starlets.

Not much of a Madonna fan, but for the love of Pete, show some respect for your elders, and betters, girl!

Now the haglet is having a go at our Nick and others with whom she disagrees and I cannot now hold my tongue. I suspect these provocative comments are merely to keep her name - like the pneumatic Jordan (aka Katie Price) - in the press and to sell yet more records, and has little to do with altruism or concern about struggling young performers.

This is the sort of thing that really grinds my gears.

One of the things of which she seems unaware is that, while digital file-sharing is the target of various industry groups, music piracy is nothing new. Cheap, pirated cassettes and CD's have always been available in truckstops and fleamarkets - these rich, arena-filling artists have had to contend with loss of income just exactly the same as she complains. How this translates into increased difficulty for new artists (as opposed to less wealth for established artists) is not addressed in her blog post.

Perhaps she could stop whining about others' success and try creating some of her own. A visit to her myspace page gives me little hope.

Admit, tho, B - what you're really pissed about is her mention of Ferrari, my F1-addicted pal.

Well, I am certainly not numbered among the ever-loyal Tifosi (Scuderia Ferrari [F1] fans) but I suspect she's also just jealous that she cannot yet afford her own prancing horse.

What DT said about "piracy" and I believe there is in fact evidence to show the *opposite* is true for emerging artists.

This comment is also interesting; what she seems to have said here is that we should have fewer choices in music. She feels that she is somehow entitled to older artists audiences, rather than creating something new and thereby acquiring her own. Sense of entitlement, anyone?
