I think Live at pompeii kick some major ass. the whole surrounding of the colessium just seemed to fit pink floyd and their music.
Did anyone else notice how long it took for the camera to finally look at roger and his ugliness? they brace you for it cuz they flash him every once in a while, but nothing could prepare me for the ugly goon! lol

Did you notice how the camera hardly looked at anyone but Mr. Mason? That annoyed me!

But from what I've seen of it, it's a pretty cool video. I like the middle passage of "Set the Controls", where you get to watch Mr. Wright playing his synth. Takes more thought than you would think it does, to control the pitch AND quality of the sound, especially on those old analogue instruments...

Yeah, pompeii produced some of the best recordings they have done. Echoes is as always brilliant on it but Set the controls is something else.....I have worn my vid tape out at the min so quality is a bit crap....but its not hard to train the ears to get passed the hissing and noise interference to the unbeatable quality what lies beneath it.....called the Pink Floyd sound.

What I want them to do is release it as a DVD. And they could even put all sorts of bonus goodies on there--outtakes, extra interviews, and so on. Wouldn't that be cool?

You're right...that was a Floydian slip. I happen to want a synth very badly right now--so it slipped out!

Not Now John surprised me in some other post by saying that Roger's bass playing was/is shitty.
Not only was I surprised by such comment coming from a hardcore waters fan, but also for the criticism in itself: if your edition of live at Pompei is the one featuring extra footage from the DSotM sessions, you'll see Mr. Waters recording the bass line for Brain Damage/Eclipse, and how groovy and natural his style was.

And that is also noticeable in the normal Pompei live footage, esp during the funky bit in Echoes, or in One of These Days.

After all, you may like it or not, but the Money bass riff is sooo classic! A real trademark Floyd riff.

But it's all so damn easy to play, and requires virtually no talent to play. Even I can play Money, and I have no formal training and was to play it right off. He's my favorite songwriter and favorite member of Pink Floyd, but he's not a formidable bass player, really.

Anyways, back to the topic, I also found that little segment in Set the Controls with Rick very nice. And the concert kicks the crap out of PULSE.

Part of why I pay so much attention to those sections is that I am watching for playing technique! I am not looking to become a Mozart or anything. The things I'm having to learn are elementary, really. I actually did not learn a proper hand position until watching PULSE (my technique was even worse then than it is now...I've still got a long way to go).

I don't think a good musician is defined by how hard the music that they play is to play, I mean to some extent it is that but I think a good musician is someone who can make even the simplest riff sound absolutley amazing and Roger did that. I would define him as a good bass player. Actualy let me expand on this, who do you all think is the best bass guitarist ever.

cheers
