| Renault Disgraced Quote:
It was alleged that Renault's former driver, Nelson Piquet Jr., was told to deliberately crash his car to enable team mate Fernando Alonso to win. Those allegations seem to have crossed into the realm of fact. One of the people canned as a result, Flavio Briatore, used to manage Michael Schumacher - which will no doubt lead our beloved B into amusing paroxysms of conspiracy theory. Gee, and I thought NASCAR was supposed to be low-class. |

| Re: Renault Disgraced From the inital sounds of things - sentiments from pundits and grandees alike - it appears we're going to have a huge whitewash over the most serious breach of the rules in F1 history. One such stated that Renault would not likely receive near as bad a fine as McLaren had in 2007 (GB£100 million) because 'unlike McLaren, Renault is not contesting the charges.' And both the FIA president, Max Mosley, and its commercial rights supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, are calling for an 'indepedent' and 'balanced' judgement since Renault has, after all, got rid of the main culprits. One rule for the rich, another for the less so. Sound familiar? |

| Re: Renault Disgraced What do you think about the teams resigning over proposals to cap the amounts spent Boab? I am in two minds over it. On one hand I thought the competition was about engineering more than the drivers. On the other surely a cap would make the sport more competitive. Keep in mind I know next to nothing about F1 I just read a couple of articles about the mass resignation. (I may have misunderstood the situation entirely). |

| Re: Renault Disgraced I thought it was a bit of pointless misdirection; like spoilt brats threatening to take their ball away from the playing field. I didn't think the prospect of a breakaway series was a viable option. One the one hand, the less wealthy teams are at a severe disadvantage in terms of development and testing capabilities when compared to the likes of Ferrari, Renault, Toyota and BMW, so a cap would be good for them. On the other hand, if the big players WANT to spend hundreds of millions on development and testing - this hasn't helped Ferrari and BMW this year? - who's to say they shouldn't be allowed to. In whatever case, the dispute, this storm in a teacup, was resolved months ago and is no longer an issue. |
