I know f**k all about the technicalities of music and have never noticed any similiarites in anything by the floyd. though if dave gilmour of roger waters want to use the same thing again thats fine by me, i actually wish they'd do that more.

did anyone ever notice that Def Leppard's 'hysteria' song is a bland upbeat 80's rock version of the 'goodbye blue skies' root notes? you'll notice it off hand when you compair the two, but its all been done before, no doubt.

also did anyone notice that the 'arnold layne' track from PATGOD sounds exactly like the one found on both 'First Three Singles' AND 'Echoes, the best of' ???

that was a joke.

uhm..

oh does anyone else know of songs that sound like other songs, on a serious level of course, dont let my joke stylings continue....

..please dont...

while im here, i'll let you in on a weird little remark that dave made without being heard, but seen. roger always had something to say about the war and the military life, because of his father, and im sure, as many of us are, david was sick of hearing about it. with that in mind, if you look on the cover of Roger Waters 'pros and cons...' album, the hitchhiker has her thumb out and has no face, well by the time of the release and David Gilmour's second solo album release, David and Roger were over and through, so leave it to David to use a pic of himself, with his thumb out, pointing to the title on the cover 'About Face.'

IMO, Dave is saying 'You call that an album? ABOUT FACE, soldier! Let me show you how its done.' ('about face' meaning both a form of insult relating to rogers overwhelming discussion about the war in his writings and a term used to say that its all about face, thats how you sell an album'...or something like that.

weird huh. i look way too deep into things, but this seemed very obvious to me, as well as other true Floyd fans who actually pay attention to things like this. did anyone else notice this before i posted about it? im sure a few of you did. maybe its been discussed before, oh well, i never search for previous topics.

and as far as the 'what do you want from me?' and 'raise my rent' comparison goes, they are indeed close, but not identical. as a guitarist i can easily play either and get a great gilmour effect from it, but when looked at closely, the only real similarity is the opening 'e' note on the solo, held for a second or two, then followed by a great solo. one would say that the live 'embryo' sounds similar a bit as well, but thats how guitarists work. its not being unoriginal, its doing what feels right. guitarists understand what i mean when i say, it just feels right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
oh and another few riff similarities would be

Floyd's 'run like hell' and Gilmour's 'until we sleep'
Water's '4:30am...' and Gilmour's 'murder'
Gilmour's 'you know im right' and Gilmour's 'raise my rent'

goodnite
