Re: PF fans???

There may be certain similarities, but I suggest you look at the difference between fans of each of the different Floydians--we're all looking for different things...though in the end, you can locate the dissatisfaction with the current state of music in almost every Floyd fan, regardless of their favourite.

Re: PF fans???

Definetly! I am sick of Britney and I am sick of bands trying to be political... And I believe that Floyd fans all generally think on the same wavelength (except for maybe Pink Anderson)

cheers

Re: PF fans???

i like Rage Against the Machine, are they considered a band "trying" to be political? i thing they are the most inteligent "new-ish" band around today.

Re: PF fans???

The problem I have is in part lyrical...but I also think that as a "Wrightfan", there's something else that bothers me about radio-format music: restricted length and lack of uniqueness--it's like the same chord patterns, all the time, for the most part. I am very sensitive to this, and I don't like it. I also hear the same beats and instrument arrangements sometimes, and this too becomes irritating. I also feel sometimes that a piece is not allowed to go to its "natural length"...why no one ever does anything like play the whole of Dark Side anymore I don't understand. I do see that songs are now about four or five minutes, which is longer than it used to be...but I really think that in some cases, that's too much.

And what about instrumentals? Do you EVER hear an instrumental on a popular radio station (as opposed to classical or easy listening)? Maybe on your classic rock station, if you're lucky. But nowhere else.

I suppose that, because classical music was my first "love" before the Floyd, I feel restricted by hearing the current format. The freedom and experimentality of Floyd music--the ability to really create an atmosphere--is something I treasure. It is an ability that I find through large parts of the Floyd era (though I have to replace The Wall with ITAOT, and TFC simply isn't musically oriented at all). I think it's also no surprise that Mr. Wright is my favourite Floydian--for many reasons, but I am not surprised because the classical influence is strongest in him; therefore it makes sense it should be his style and influence that resonates the most with me.

So I think there are many, many different reasons to love the Floyd!

Re: PF fans???

You know, one day my father was listening to Floyd, and I thought: great music. After hearing ABITW pt. 2, I got into the lyrics department too. And since then, I just listened to every Floyd song in Earth.

By the way, good comment FloydWright.

Re: PF fans???

Thanks--I'm glad you enjoyed my comment. BTW, that one statement I wrote SHOULD read that sometimes 4 or 5 minutes is too LITTLE. Sorry about that.

Re: PF fans???

oooops I forgot about RATM. I like RATM too and yes they are political but what I was trying to say is that bands nowdays work really hard to try and come up with good lyrics. To me good lyrics are just something that comes into your head and is quickly jotted down. Or writing stuff when you are drunk or stoned is wicked, you'll alomst always get something interesting out of that, bands are tryng too hard to be lyricaly good, thr Floyd just did it.

cheers
