Gov't Mule Seeing as how so much thread space has been dedicated to The Mars Volta, a band I admittedly am unfamiliar with, I though I'd throw the same question out regarding Gov't Mule... Now mind you.. If you impune the hygenic practices and nature of Warren Haynes, he will most likely hunt you down and beat the crap out of you.. Personally, I like 'em a lot...

Ahh, now you're talking Fulghy. I must admit (I know it's looked down upon around these parts) that I am quite into the jam band scene. I've had the privelage of seeing Haynes twice. Once with Phil Lesh and Friends...and once playing along with The Dead (I missed his accoustic opening set due to awful downpours that delayed our travels). Let me make this clear to all of you kiddies: Warren Haynes is THE hardest working person in the music business today. He fronts 3 different bands; Allman Bros, The Dead, Gov'T Mule...and will often tour with all 3 at the same time. He writes most all of his music. He can play endlessly...his endurance, is like none I've never seen. His voice, while it is the gravely type, is just as incredible. His slide playing is reminiscent of Duane Allman. I'd go as far as saying that his sound is the best out there today amoungst all guitarists in all genres. Yes, he looks like he's been on the road for weeks without grooming....but that's because he probably has. Ever seen the size of his hands? He's got big old bear claws with short stubby fingers. Who knows how he hits them sweet notes. Yes, in short, I have a man-crush. Don't even get me started on Trey Anastasio.... ~Fletch ***SPOONMOON***

Re: Gov't Mule I like Gov't Mule. They came around close to here about 2 years ago but I didn't go to see them. Haynes did an awesome cover of Cortez The Killer with Dave Matthews too. He's great. Last edited by Fictitious; 05-09-2005 at 07:29 PM.

Re: Gov't Mule Some time ago, I made a compulsive purchase which turned out to be The Deep End vol. 1. The music is very well done, and at most times very uplifting. This was (and still is) my only experience with a "jam" band -- it didn't change my life or anything, but it is better than most of the stuff that's out on the market today. I really enjoyed the piece about losing his best friend, which is his soul. That's very very deep, and probably one of the best songs I've heard in a very long time. I still occasionally play this disc, but it's not an "everydayer." Nevertheless, it's still good stuff.
