Re: TDB masterpiece

I dunno...I have never got right into it.

Ya know how some music you can put on loud and it wraps 'round you like a big warm doona? Well for me TDB is a about a bath mat.

And Britney is about a hankerchief (that's being generous)

Re: TDB masterpiece

The Division Bell IS masterful...it is one of my three most important "relaxation" albums. There are three albums that are all related, in my opinion, because they give me such a feeling of peaceful meditation: Meddle, Wet Dream, and The Division Bell.

Re: TDB masterpiece

In the sad musical contest of the middle 90s TDB was for sure a supernova; nice songs, magnificent playing and good production, but it (and AMLOR) hardly can bear comparison with the innovative and stunning concept albums of the past, those were absolute masterpieces, TDB and AMLOR are simply beautiful works.

Re: TDB masterpiece

Sorry, but I'd rather listen to Britney while giving bjs to the backstreet boys, then listen to TDB, excluding High Hopes of course.

I'm not sure if this reveals more about your lifestyle or your musical preferences...

Re: TDB masterpiece

You mean "masterpiece" like DARK SIDE OF THE MOON is a "masterpiece" or like WISH YOU WERE HERE is a "masterpiece"?

If so, I'd have to say, IMO, no way man.

Perhaps even AHM, MEDDLE and ANIMALS (though by then, PF was getting soundly "Rogered") could, to a lesser or greater extent, also be included amongst the two mentioned above. But DSoTM and WYWH revealed the GROUP at their very best and, I think, at the height of their respective and collective creativity.

Sadly, we all know what is lacking in TDB, so how could it possibly be a "masterpiece"

Flummoxed Floydian,
Byron

Re: TDB masterpiece

I love the Division Bell as much as I love Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon. Each of those three albums is so different it's hard to compare them. Division Bell isn't perfect, naturally (a little heavy on guitar solos, all those damned out-of-band players and writers, Keep Talking and Lost For Words just embarrassing), but I find songs like Marooned and A Great Day For Freedom to be very cathartic. And High Hopes is quite an accomplishment for someone who has been writing music for as long as Dave has. I think it's a nice way to end the whole Pink Floyd thing (one of the few things I like about the Echoes compilation is how it closes with High Hopes and Bike).

(Edit: turns out a big chunk of that last sentence was missing.)

Re: TDB masterpiece

I find it hard to imagine that someone can enjoy Division Bell more than Wish You Were Here, Dark Side Of The Moon, and Meddle. It's blasphemy. IMO.

Re: TDB masterpiece

I like TDB. Not as much as DSOTM or WYWH or Meddle for that matter but its a very nice album, high hopes and Wearing the inside out are quite masterful, but never as good as Echoes or Wish you were here or the great gig...

cheers
