Roger touring The Wall in 2010?

Roger's latest interview, a sit-down with David Frost, confirms what has been rumoured for months: that late next year he may (if the numbers work out) undertake another tour, presenting The Wall — presumably in its entirety along with additional material to fill a whole concert — in cities around the world.

This could be an exciting prospect. I'm intrigued by the notion of turning the show into a piece of "agitprop", as Roger says. Brechtian epic theatre protesting global unrest and economic imbalance? It'd be perfectly in line with his recent gestures against the Israeli West Bank barrier, the War on Terror, etc.

Guest musical spots for Gilmour and Mason are, I hope, open if they should want to take them.

Ohhhhh yeah....

I have been waiting to see the Actual Floyd for ages... well as long as it's at least one of the Original Members. Apparentley Nick Mason says he hasn't ruled out going on tour with him... And I think if Nick does end up going, He will probably try to convince David too... (Peer Pressure, lol)...

I dont care how much it costs, I'm willing to go around the world and back to see this...

(I live in Australia).

Hmmm...Roger only briefly mentioned his "agitprop" intentions, and I don't know about the rest of your speculation on his motives, Botley, but I liked his words about successive generations (after his) putting down their (our) handsets - whether gaming or texting - and seizing the opportunity of sorting the lies from the truth, the wheat from the chaff. Of tearing down the various walls that divide us.

And although we have been proven wrong before with our "pigs will fly" speculation, I think it will be a cold day indeed before Gilmour again joins Roger for tours of The Wall.

Nick, perhaps yes, but David? Nowhere near as likely.

C'mon, BoaB...get that 'glass half full' mentality. Just picture 'Comfortably Numb' with Roger, Nick, and David one more time. Sure do miss Rick...think I'll go put on tGGitS and think about death...

tGGits? WTF?

I dunno, termi, without David's backup from Rick to counter the dark side's Roger and Nick, he may feel a bit out numbered.

Glass half full? No way, some greedy sod drank half my glass already. I'm down half a drink!

Good point, BoaB...David would seem incomplete without his musical partner.

As for glass half full or empty...here's what I think...

Re: Roger touring The Wall in 2010?

B: I perhaps inject my own imagination a little too far into speculating on what Roger has planned for us all, toying as I have been myself with theatrical ideas on how to present the show afresh for a new century. The Broadway spectacular is still being worked on, as far as we know... Roger's tour will perhaps incorporate some elements of that sure-to-be-different take on the story!

The Wall, in its original incarnation as a Pink Floyd LP, is very much a collaborative musical effort between David and Roger along with Bob Ezrin. I think David should be very proud of all his contributions to that album, not just "Comfortably Numb". Nick and Rick of course contributed to the project as well, along with a cast of hundreds. In fact, Nick's playing is at a peak of quite remarkable power on the whole recording.

Having both David and Nick out as guests for a few songs on a couple of special shows — the O2 in London, perhaps? Madison Square Garden, maybe? Toronto's Air Canada Centre, dare I naïvely hope? — would be fantastic. It's entirely possible, although Nick seems to think that appearing on every date of the tour would be out of the question. David, I'm sure, would need a lot more convincing before he'd even consider it.

"We must never stop working together, we make such a great team."
—Roger to David during The Wall recording sessions

Sorry, I am not allowed to say much else, or the person who gave me the info could be in trouble. Just letting you know that there is hope after all.

Re: Roger touring The Wall in 2010?

well over an hour to the big announment...i wonder which way Roger is leaning...

one school of thought is he does it similar to the DSOTM tour and just play The Wall straight through with a few other songs with video screen showing the imagery...that way he can play a lot more cities...

the other school of thought is closer to Berlin from 20 years ago with a huge set and a large cast...from the rumour mill if he choses the later it would be in larger venues holding close to 40,000/50,000 and then play 2 or 3 nites in each city because of the time to tear down the set and move it...if he goes this way he'll only be able to hit only about 10 markets this year...

i hope picks the later...here's hoping Buffalo/Toronto makes the list with Bill's Stadium and Roger Center to pick from...

Re: Roger touring The Wall in 2010?

The tour will OPEN in Toronto on Sep. 15th at Air Canada Centre! He's even playing Ottawa on my BIRTHDAY! This is fantastic news.

I've managed to sign up for the presales on rogerwaters.com but the site appears to be overrun with traffic right now.

Lots of North American markets on the list!
