Lewis Caroll was quite sane actually. He was a logistician and mathematican. He wrote Alice in Wonderland as an exercise in what would happen if things did not happen logically.

Interesting story here actually, the Queen of England met Carroll and raved about what a brilliant author he was. She made him promise to send him the first copy of his next book. He did so. She was quite disappointed to recieve a mathematical textbook.

He also invented the word "emordnilap". A tasty reward for anyone who knows what an emordnilap is.
