Synth sound for Dogs solo?

Has anyone successfully recreated or figured out the synth solo in "Dogs"? It's got lots of modulation and stuff with the filter and distortion. I had assumed it was a Quadra, since it sounds like an ARP and sounds like he's playing with aftertouch. However, I see it was likely a string ensemble or minimoog. Just wondering how he got all that modulation control.

Thanks,
Brick

Re: Synth sound for Dogs solo?

Have you watched Roger Waters' In the Flesh: Live DVD? Jon Carin does a pretty faithful recreation on digital synth (while singing lead and playing guitar, no less).

The early Minimoogs had some pretty wild pitch effects, as I recall. That's probably how it was done originally. There were not just one but several Minis on stage for the 1977 Pink Floyd tour — the synth, not the car — so it's a fairly likely candidate. By the time of The Wall ("Run Like Hell" springing to mind as a similar solo), the Prophet V had taken over for lead parts.

They would also frequently use an ARP Solina for those synthesized string ensemble noises throughout both eras.

Hands up, everyone who was waiting for Botley's informative reply?

Traffic may have slowed here, but I still think this is the best Pink Floyd fan site around. Our characters and contributors - I didn't want to write "members" - are the top, the tip top.
