| Salt or Sugar? When I first started dating my future wife Christina there was some concern with her parents on our age difference. What were my intentions? How could we be compatible? And would I finally want to settle down after being single so long? I remember one of the first times I called Christina her Mom picked up the other phone and Asked “ Is that the Old Man” “Go away Old Man” she fumed. This was before I met her of course and It made me really leery of meeting her anytime soon.. The first time I did meet her was at Washington’s Crossing on Christmas day for the annual Re-Enactment of the Crossing. Christina’s Dad already knew me so I already had passed that test . When Mary met me that morning I was waiting for Christina to show up before we were to board the Boats for the Event. To my surprise Mary & Bob saw me before Christina. From that meeting on I thought Mary liked me and Christina confirmed my thoughts as she told me “Guess what my Mom Like’s you so don’t worry” Alright” I replied. As the day wore on we went to Christina’s parents house in New Jersey for Christmas dinner. We had a nice quite dinner with the 4 of us and made small talk about, families, Christmas, and the Crossing .When dinner ended Bob asked “If anyone wanted Coffee” both Christina and I nodded in approval. I usually put a splash of Milk and a couple of sugar’s in my Coffee. As I stirred my Coffee I observed with surprise the amount of Sugar Christina used in her Coffee. As I took my first sip I almost spit it out . Thankfully I was able to catch myself but something was definitely wrong with this cup of coffee. As the conversation picked up again I watched to see Christina’s expression as she took her first sip. She kept stirring it and would stop to talk again as I watched intently. Bob startled me by asking “How’s the coffee Mark?” Ahh Great Bob Thanks” I said with not a touch of sarcasm. Maybe it was a joke on me or maybe it was worse. No I just had to wait for Christina to take a sip. Finally her cup rose to her lips and I saw the look in her eye’s. Something was up with her coffee to. She stirred it more and pulled her spoon out with a spoonful of sugar that hadn’t lost any of its original texture after all the stirring. She took another sip and almost spit it out as I almost did “Wait a minute is that Sugar” she cried as she pointed to the bowl. “Or Salt” she implied. “ Oh sorry” her Dad reported “I forgot we used that for Salt” explained Bob. “Mark how is your coffee” asked Mary. I just smiled and we all had a good chuckle. |

| Re: Salt or Sugar? So, you passed the audition. But a bowl of salt? Salted coffee? Yeuch! Makes my blood pressure rise just at the thought of it. |
