Your wish is my command, newbie. How do you want it done, maybe a brief spell on the rack or being held over a fiery pit and slowly roasting to death? Choices, Choices... BTW thats a joke, I wouldn't really do that, you just said that in your last line and it was too good an oppurtunity to miss. I think the Floyd were better later. Syd's stuff is good but that naive attitude and his lack of hard-hitting songs would have been a hindrance if he was still in the band. Later the band actually developed with the times and that has ensured their survival in the cut-throat music business.

If Syd had stayed away from the acid a little bit, he may have been able to mature into an even more brilliant frontman than he was before. However, I can't complain about the stuff that Pink Floyd released after him. Good stuff!

I disagree, if Syd stayed with Floyd, they'd just become another Strawberry Alarm Clock (no offense to Strawberry Alarm Clock fans out there).

Are you kidding me, I think Gilmour's quote " We didn't have a mick Jagger or a Roger Daltry. All we had was a bass player that would stomp around and scowling and making faces" says all you need to say. Syd would have been the charasmatic front man, Roger was too busy being negative to do that. Syd was great musically, as was Roger, but without Syd would there have been The Pink Floyd. P.s. Yoshomon, being a fellow new person, I am happy to see we share the same opinion on Syd _________________ "I've got a mouse who hasn't got a house, I don't know why but I call him Gerald" ~Roger "Syd" Barrett

hey strawberry alarm clock is good. especially their only hit. its so good and sixties. anyways i absolutely love the stuff with syd but if he had stayed i think the band would have been one of the many casualties of sixties psychedelic bands whose music sounds very dated nowadays. sadly i think that is what would have happened.

Psychedelic bands do sound a bit dated. They were relevant for their era I suppose but tastes change.

Let's face it, Roger had bigger things in mind then taking acid and partying. Syd was killing the band by his behavior and if Rog didn't kick him out, there would be no Floyd today. Besides, what did Syd ever do that equals Echoes or SOYCD?

Everything happens for a reason including Syd's tragic end... its what makes Floyd, Floyd. And what is it with newbies feeling insecure and saying things like "I am glad that you being a fellow newbie share the same view as me" Relax ppl no need to feel so threatened. Just enjoy the forum... cheers
