You get other references in the Final Cut which tell us about his inner feelings he wants to hide: e.g. the line about :"If you negotiate the minefield in the drive, and beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eye, and ... , and then "dial the combination...." I don't know if anyone here saw the videoclips that accompagnie this lines. Waters sings in the presence of his shrink. On the words "dial the combination", the shrink makes a gesture that seems to tell: "well, i thought i would get to know what lives in your mind, but i understand now that this will never happen; i'll give it up."
Actually, Roger is singing in character, the character is a World War II vet dissatisfied at what has become of the world he once fought to protect. Why Rog himself is in the video for this song, I don;t know. But if you'll notice all these videos had a character showing up at the end, that was the WWII vet I spoke of earlier. For proof that Rog is singing about a vet, "When I was their age all the lights went out" talking about blackouts in war-torn England.

Roger doesnt need to make ammends or apologize to Rick or Dave or Nick.
What would YOU do if your keyboard player couldnt or wouldnt contribute?
What would you do if he couldnt keep the drink out of his hand or the straw from nis nose? Knock it out? Tough love?

Roger gave him the chance. In fact he gave him many chances. Roger didnt put the drink in his hand. The truth is that Rick couldnt play the parts required. He has/had the ability but his desire wasnt there. Dont get me wrong, I play keyboards and Rick is one of my biggest inspirations. If Dave and Nick wanted, they could have gone against Roger and kept Rick in the band... but they didnt. In fact they put him on the payroll just to have his name on the albums to validate 'them' as Pink Floyd after Roger left.

You know, I have never seen anyone offer one single shred of proof of all the rumours against Mr. Wright. We weren't there; we don't know what his personal habits were or weren't.

Unless you have proof from a credible source that you can cite here, I think there's no place for that kind of thing.

It seems that I recognize your style....

Can you prove that he didnt use drugs?

I know his neice..... We have had several long talks about Rick and the floyd. Do you believe that Rick never used drugs? Do you understand the history of the Floyd? Do you believe that while Roger(Syd), Roger Waters and the others were imbibing, that Rick stood outside and abstained? His neice would dissagree. She told us of the time when they all said that they werent using 'drugs' and when she opened the studio door; pot smoke came rolling out along with fits of laughter. I've seen the pictures of her growing up with Rick in the background, holding a drink. This was before computer technology allowed cut and paste. Perhaps he was holding it for another? She has seen him use. She doesnt hold it against him. Neither do I. I think it is sad that Rick couldnt perform up to his own standards and sadder that some feel the need to blame Roger. Maybe Roger is a perfectionist. He wasnt telling Rick what to play, he just wanted him to play.

btw.... these are my thoughts and shouldnt be taken as anyone else's beliefs or held against anyone other than myself.

I'm sure they ALL did drugs and drank at times, certainly, and they have even admitted to such. My point is that I have never seen anyone prove a particular set of accusations.

Sorry FWr, but these are the dangers of new members coming in and upsetting assorted applecarts and stamping on sacred cows...sometimes they're not even "newbies".

And didn't you make a splash, andyc-markq, but welcome and greetings "allthemore".

You've chosen a most worthy and zealous Richard Wright fan as a PF-debate adversary in FloydWright ne้ Waters. I'm still licking the wounds sustained when I so foolishly doubted the almighty Rick, so step away from the cage. There's biting and scratching today. (j/k)

You are, you know and that isn't such a bad thing by a long shot, so stop being so sensitive.

Can I still be your "buddy"?

What was the topic again?

Thansk very much for the welcome. I suppose I should have introduced myself before jumping in but I couldnt help myself. I hope I didnt ruffle to many feathers...... but, a few would be nice..lol...

To introduce myself, I should say that I am a member of the band DAVES ROPE SWING, (no its not a reference to Gimmemore), and I post frequently on Rogers web page at :

http://www.roger-waters.com/questions.html

under the question "What do you think?", as Andersoncouncil which was the name of another band I was in.

I hope everyone understands that I am not making personal attacks on anyone here, but I do enjoy P/F-R/W discussions/arguments and like everyone else, will make my opinions known. This is a VERY COOL SITE and I am happy to discover more people who enjoy Roger and Pink Floyd...
