Scales question - Pentatonic?

Hey guys, new guy here. I used to play guitar a bit in my teens. Even had a typical unsuccesfull band. lol
I'm 40 now and hitting it headstrong again. Had to grow a family, job, bla bla bla...... some of you get the picture I hope. lol

Anyway I am relearning, having a lot of fun and still can strum basic cords on my beater fender acustic. ("Wish you were here" and "Breathe" is a moderate success at best)

I have a scale question.

I picked up a lace Huntington (Strat copy) brand new very cheap 80.00 bucks. The lace pickups alone was worth it. And I have an amp. This thing is not to bad for a cheapie.

I'm starting to suffer through scales again. And although I mostly enjoy the acustic I really want to learn some of David's solo stuff just for my own pleasure. I don't really care about tone and effects at this time as I just want to concentrate on the notes.

Is a good start to re-learn penatonic with blue notes? What other scales do his popular solos involve?

Thanks guys.

Tom

First of all, welcome to APFFN, Tom! It's good to see that another musician is around.

As I know nothing of such things and cannot give any advice on scales , I just wanted to let you know that I changed your thread title to something that better reflects your post. That way people will find your thread more easily.

Re: Scales question - Pentatonic?

Hi there Flier. Pentatonic scales are good to know for ANY kind of soloing. If you're learning Big Dave's leads, make sure you have minor keys particularly down pat. Another thing to make sure you practice is note-bending and vibrato! It takes lots of finger strength to play what Gilmour plays.

That should be enough to get you started. It won't hurt to learn Lydian and Mixolydian modal scales when you have the basics down.
