Everybosy says that this is a great album.
If not the best of all times ...
But can you really put your finger and tell me why exactly is it ?

Re: DSOTM

I think most people are attracted to the fact that you can sit down to the album to relax, chill out, and generally enjoy yourself. And it works too!

Re: DSOTM

You can feel that the Floyd was enjoying it a loy, and the guys were very close to each others at the time. Consider this and great music and lyrics, and that's DSOTM.

Re: DSOTM

It starts of quietly with a few thumps, heartbeats... builds up into the most amazing soundscape which just washes over into an incredible change over into breathe and the very first woeds "Breathe, breathe in the air..." bring up the most amaizng mix of emotions in me.. then on the run just makes your head spin there is no other way to put it, one is suddenly woken right up by the clock chimes of time and the song is so powerful that you want to go out and live your life right then and there (but not until you've finished listening to this).
The great gig takes over and the most orgasmic song in the whole intire world comes over and infects every part of your being. The the most famous bass line ever written throws itself in your face and you feel liberated by the words and once again for god knows what time you decide that moneyis evil and you can live your life without it ( until the next day when you need to buy new stationary or a concert ticket or perhaps new guitar strings...)
Us and them makes me realise that we all live our lives without stoping to think
"Listen son said the man with the gun, I've got things on my mind" don't we all have things on our minds?
Any colour you like is the trippiest song ever written and it is exactly what you see, any colour you like and every colour you like.
Brain damage tells of the importance of friendship and always being there for one another and if that doesn't work then I'll see you on the dark side of the moon...
And finaly everything you do is eclipsed by the moon including the last 45 minutes...

This album raise emotions only raised by it or the most extreme situations in one's life....

cheers

ps scuse any typos if there are any

Re: DSOTM

What Sydney said, including typos, if any.

It's also wonderful to listen to whilst watching one's snake being eaten by its dinner.

Re: DSOTM

S.O.L (Shocked out loud) Sydney ...
That was wonderful ...
Yeah I think that way to its just that I read some other reviews that aren't from a PF fan. And they weren't that good (Generally). And when I see The Beatles reviews its all like 5 from 5.
And I dont understand where they better then the floyd cause they dont. Maybe its Just because of their pop/rock music.

Re: DSOTM

thorin13,

I'd say not, since in "wing-nut" speak it SOL means "Shit Outta Luck", like when one of your wings falls off...in flight.

Re: DSOTM

A significant part of DSotM's appeal is the recording quality - Alan Parsons and the band were at their experimental and mixing best. There is such depth and width to the album (crank up the 1/2-speed mastered album on a really good sound system some time). It still sounds good today (minus a couple of saturation of Gilmour's guitar solos on Time and some saturating vocals on UaT).

It's just a great sounding album (in addition to the reasons you all have stated above).

Re: DSOTM

There has never ever been and there never ever will be an album like DSTOM. We can argue it till the cows come home but we all know it as a fact, and not only is it good lstening to it whilst watching your snake get eaten by its dinner it is also good listening to it in some mood lighting sitting or lying round with a bunch of drunk ppl after a whole day of having to put up with the likes of Britney Spears...

cheers
