easily comfortably numb from pulse but also instrumentals like Marooned. It's so hard to choose a best solo because the mans a genious in every spectrum. Whether he's just strumming along or solo, he does something that so many guitarists can't (IMO)

Cheers

Many solos to choose from, but here is my top-three:

1. SOYCD
2. Comfortably Numb
3. Time

Great, some choices and not a poll !

• The outro solo on The Narrow Way (from Ummagumma) - just before the track fades out.
• Pigs (Three Different Types), from Animals.
• Mihalis - from his first solo record.

Honourable mention: 'Is Your Love Strong Enough' by Brian Ferry (Boys & Girls ?).

... oops, now I've got another three ... and another ... and ...

Good point. That is a REALLY nice song, and some excellent guitar playing. Who was/is Mihalis by the way?

A quick 'Google' reveals that 'Mihalis' can be a person's first name (whether that is male or female, I'm not sure), and also the name of some kind of DG bootleg/obscure release. I found that page at:

http://www.pf-roio.de/roio/roio-lp/mihalis.lp.html

I'm thinking that the song uses a person's name for it's moniker, however, I'm happy for anyone to shoot that theory with some truth ...

HIGH HOPES!
Comfortably Numb from pulse, I think the dsot version is a bit too fast, but it's brilliant also.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond

For those of you who haven't heard High Hopes, and think you've heard David's greatest solo...

From what I recall, Mihalis is the Greek equivalent of Michael.

It seems that at one point or another, David counted amongst his possessions a boat (yacht, perhaps??) with that name. Perhaps he wrote the song whilst enjoying a holiday?

Cheers!

He did indeed possess a yacht that was named thusly. I'm not sure if he still has ownership over it, but he definitely still owns a houseboat on The Thames named 'Astoria'. A large part of The Division Bell was recorded there, I believe.

Weren't some other albums (non-Floyd) ones recorded there as well. On some album sleeves (I can't remember which ones now) it mentions Astoria.

As was a great deal of A Momentary Lapse Of Reason. And Sonnet 18, if the DVD was any indication. (Maybe it was just staged for the filming, but who knows?) It's a beautiful craft, any way you go, though.

Cheers!

I was miffed when he only came in number 8 in the Total Guitar poll. Second solo in CN on the Pulse video, High Hopes........ahhhmmm Echoes... There are so many I can't choose. I put him in my top 3 of guitar players. I dont care that he mainly uses the blues scale as most of the really good solos are using that scale. My G3 vid puts me to sleep.

Gotta agree with that. It doesn't get many mentions but it's bloody awesome.
