Re: Nick Mason as a drummer

Nick's drumming doesn't "stand out", it is very simple but good. Tho the drumming in ASoS is VERY good!

Re: Nick Mason as a drummer

You said that dave and roger are the real genius of Pink Floyd I agree but I think you forget the real genius (Diamond as Waters wrote) - Roger 'Syd' Barrett.

Re: Nick Mason as a drummer

Rick has contributed quite a bit, though not as much as Rog and Dave, Mason, even less. Syd, while he was experimental and gave the Floyd their jam sounds, they quickly outgrew his style and went on to a whole new sound. By the way, he was barely a genius.

Re: Nick Mason as a drummer

This is exactly what I was trying to say in the other thread about Nick, he isn't John Bonham or Keith Moon but the man has a groove and a style and it is VERY relaxed and I like that, and playing the drums in the Nick style is FUN I'll tell you that much...

cheers

>> I personally think some folk here give Nick and Rick more credit than they deserve.<<

And people don't give Roger too much ****ing credit as a bass player? Roger played only half the bass work on their albums, the rest was done by David.

Re: Nick Mason as a drummer

Somehow I don't think it was 50/50, really. Maybe Dave plays more bass on later albums like The Wall, but he didn't do it as often through the early years. Roger plays the bass very well in Pompeii... in the studio and on the live tracks. Very well indeed.

Botley, my good man. I think David would beg to differ with you. As this interview that was unearthed by my Guinness drinkin' buddy Driven would imply, David has been playing a large fraction of the bass parts for most of Floyd's history:

On live tracks yes, he wasn't bad at all. And he's improved in years gone by (he really played well on the ITF concert DVD). But as far as studio work after DSOTM...he wasn't that interested in playing as much as he was composing.

Oh please. That's no smaller an exaggeration than those Roger likes to make about his contributions.

I defy you to prove that Gilmour played bass on any other Roger-era song than One of These Days, A Pillow of Winds, Echoes (ALL of which Roger ALSO plays bass on), The Narrow Way or Hey You.

And how about the bass on Pigs (Three Different Ones)? Rog didn't play that live.

Cliff Jones.
But the one about the HAC bass intro is something I've also heard eons ago from many other different sources.
