Getting back to Nick Mason's drumming here, I really don't think he's very good. I'll admit that his style does suit the Floyd and most of his drum tracks are fine (except for "The Nile Song"- very bad), however I just don't think he's very good, that's all. The fills he plays on every album always sound the same, and he barely every varies his beat. I also think the drums on "Great Gig in the Sky" are a little repetetive. Too many tom fills. I always loved the drums on "Mother", but then I found out that this isn't him, it is Jeff Pocaro (Is he the drummer from Toto?). Also, the song "Two suns in the sunset" from "The final cut" has an excellent drum track, but this is also not Nick. I seem to enjoy the drum parts that Nick is not playing. Try listening to the drums on "Mother" closely, you can really hear the differnece in quality, it is much better than Nick's drumming. However, I'm not trying to say Nick is a terrible drummer, but i do think he is below average musical competance. My fav drummers are Stewart Copeland (the police) and John Bonham (Led Zep)

Who's this Byron chap? The only Byron I know of is an eighteenth century poet.

Simple, Byron is Bride of a Bull. The man next to The Man(Marko of course!).

I am a drummer also and he is good with his off-timeing rolls and beats. Though he does not have the "Kick" of John Bonham, Nick is sill on my favorites list which is: Top 3:1.John Bonham 2.Nick Mason 3.Ginger Baker

One overlooked Fact: Has anyone realized that Nick Mason is the ONLY member of Pink Floyd who has played on EVERY Pink Floyd album? Each member has missed at least 1 album, 'cept Nick. An interesting parallel is that Ian Paice (drummer) is the only member of Deep Purple that has played on every album. Jon Lord has played on every DP album, but he has retired and is not on the NEW DP album (to be released very soon). What about that? BTW, my fave drummers: 1. Virgil Donati (Planet X) 2. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension) 3. Deen Castronovo 4. Neil Peart Good point about THE NILE SONG. Another major Mason flub-up is on THE GOLD ITS IN THE... I can't believe they used that take! I'm a multi-instrumentalist, and have a recent cd called LISTEN that has a 12 minute re-interpretation of INTERSTELLAR OVERDRIVE. Go to www.giveitalisten.com

Well, Dr., Nick gets bragging rights, and he would be the only member of Pink Floyd who could make personal reminicence anecdotes for every album, having been there (except for Two Suns in the Sunset).
